At Versapak, we are committed to conserving natural resources and we take pride in the fact that we offer our customers a solution that considers the environment. Since 1973 Versapak have manufactured bags that can be used over 2,000 times; we are passionate about making quality products that can be reused and recycled.
Plastic pollution is a global problem; plastics that disposed of after a single-use are having a heavy impact on the world around us. The solution was to reduce plastic waste by recycling and reusing more as part of a global approach to waste management. The issue has been the ratio of what is recycled to what turns to waste. Europeans produce 25 million tonnes of plastic waste every year, but less than 30 per cent of this is recycled, this is about to change. The BBC recently reported about a set of pledges amongst a newly formed sustainability campaign group ‘WRAP’, consisting of major retail and manufacturing organisations including Asda, Coca Cola, Danone and Protor & Gamble. They announced a initiatives to tackle plastic pollution by 2025 including:
- The elimination of difficult or unnecessary single use plastic packaging through better design
- Make 100% of plastic packaging reusable or recyclable or compostable
- Make sure 70% of plastic packaging is recycled or composted
- Ensuring 30% of all plastic packaging to include recycled material
The pact is also supported by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation.
